Hemingfords Lawn Tennis Club is set to celebrate a major overhaul of its facilities, completing a £140,000 project to upgrade its three courts and extend playing hours. The club, located in Huntingdonshire, has recently resurfaced its courts with modern synthetic turf and installed floodlights, promising an improved playing experience for both seasoned players and newcomers.
The project received crucial funding through a grant from the Thalia WB Community Fund, combined with an interest-free loan from Cambridgeshire Tennis, demonstrating a strong partnership between local organisations and community sport. Club officials anticipate the investment will significantly increase participation across all age groups.
The new synthetic surface is expected to be particularly beneficial for older players, offering a smoother, more forgiving surface that reduces strain on joints while enhancing gameplay. The addition of floodlights extends playing hours, making tennis accessible during evenings and throughout the darker months.
To mark the completion of the project, the club will host an open day on April 26th, from 1pm to 5.30pm. Attendees can look forward to a range of free activities, including coaching sessions and friendly doubles matches.
Notably, Sandi Procter, President of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), will be in attendance to officially cut the ribbon and celebrate the club’s commitment to growing the sport at a grassroots level.
Club officials are optimistic that the upgraded facilities will not only attract new members but also foster a thriving tennis community in Hemingfords and beyond. The investment highlights the importance of accessible sports facilities in promoting health, wellbeing, and community spirit.
