Tesco is expanding access to products aimed at women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, launching dedicated aisles in stores across Cambridgeshire. The supermarket chain will introduce the new sections to its larger stores in Barhill, Peterborough, St Neots and Wisbech, following a successful pilot scheme last year.

The move aims to provide a more comprehensive range of options for women navigating the changes associated with these life stages. Products will span haircare, nutrition, sexual wellness, digestive health, and skincare, empowering women with greater choice in managing their symptoms.

Tesco reports the initiative builds on a trial in over 200 stores last year, demonstrating significant customer demand for readily available products addressing menopause-related concerns. The expanded roll-out will feature items such as Vitabiotics vitamins specifically formulated for menopausal women, skincare from established brands like Nivea and Olay, and intimate hygiene products from Tena and Always.

To help customers easily identify suitable products, Tesco has partnered with GenM, a collective focused on creating products for menopausal women. They will be introducing the M-tick label, which signifies items offering “safer” alternatives and designed to alleviate common symptoms.

The NHS provides extensive information and support for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause. Common symptoms can include changes to menstrual patterns, with periods becoming irregular before eventually stopping. Many women also experience mental health symptoms, such as low mood, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. Physical symptoms are also common, and include hot flushes, sleep difficulties, headaches, and muscle aches.

Tesco encourages anyone with health concerns about perimenopause or menopause to consult their GP. The new aisles aim to complement, not replace, professional medical advice and support. The supermarket believes providing accessible products will help women proactively manage their wellbeing during these significant life transitions.
