In a significant development following our earlier report on the break-in, police have now made key arrests in the Cambridge Coins theft case. In a daring double heist that saw over £50,000 in coins stolen, authorities have charged one man and arrested two others. The incident has raised serious concerns about business security in Cambridge and the wider Cambridgeshire area.
On 20 February, thieves targeted Cambridge Coins, located in Signet Court on Swanns Road, in a well-coordinated series of burglaries. The first break-in occurred in the early hours of the day, with the burglars making off with rare coins valued at approximately £40,000. Later that evening, around 10 p.m., the same group returned to the premises and emptied a safe containing silver coins worth an additional £10,000. In a bold and brazen move, the entire safe was even thrown out of a first-floor window, further complicating the investigation.
Following a rapid response, Cambridgeshire police have made significant progress. Joseph Ross, a 35-year-old man of no fixed abode, has been charged with burglary and eight counts of theft. He is scheduled to appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 24 February. In addition to Ross, two other men, both aged 34, were arrested on suspicion of burglary. One suspect has been released on bail until 3 May, while the other remains in custody as the investigation continues.
