Exciting plans are in motion for a new four-lane swimming pool at Chatteris Leisure Centre in Cambridgeshire. Fenland District Council has put forward the proposal as part of a broader initiative to enhance leisure facilities across the district.

A Major Upgrade for Chatteris Leisure Centre

The proposed 25-metre swimming pool would cater to all types of swimmers, including families with young children, casual swimmers, and competitive club athletes. The plan also includes a customer-only changing area, ensuring a comfortable experience for visitors.

Chatteris Leisure Centre, managed by Freedom Leisure, is among several sites set to benefit from refurbishment projects aimed at improving customer satisfaction.

Additional Leisure Centre Improvements

In addition to the new pool, the council has outlined £50,000 worth of refurbishments for Chatteris Leisure Centre. Planned upgrades include:

  • New carpets and flooring replacements
  • Upgraded showers and changing room appliances
  • A refreshed dance studio floor covering
  • Improved air conditioning for the dance studio
  • A full gym repaint

These improvements will enhance the overall experience for visitors and ensure the centre remains a top choice for fitness and recreation in the area.

Cost and Construction Timeline

A business case for the new swimming pool estimates an annual running cost of £106,823. If approved, construction would begin in February 2026 and finish by February 2027.

Other Leisure Centre Proposals in Fenland

The council is also considering updates to other leisure centres, including:

  • Demolishing the sports hall at Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey
  • Adding three floodlit padel tennis courts at Hudson Leisure Centre in Wisbech
  • Upgrading facilities at George Campbell Leisure Centre in March

Decision and Next Steps

The proposals will be discussed at a Fenland District Council cabinet meeting on February 24. If approved, these improvements could significantly enhance leisure options across the district.
