A beloved garden centre space in Huntingdon is set for a vibrant comeback this spring. Blue Diamond Group has confirmed it will officially open its newest Cambridgeshire branch on 10 April

The £1.5 million transformation of the site marks a fresh chapter for the Banks End location, which was left empty following Dobbies’ decision to shut several “unprofitable locations” as part of a national restructuring.

Blue Diamond, one of the UK’s largest garden centre operators, announced earlier this year it had taken on the lease and would give the Huntingdon premises a “full Blue Diamond makeover”.

Originally opened under the Dobbies brand—established in 1865—the Huntingdon site served local gardeners and families for years before closing on 23 December 2023. Its closure was part of Dobbies’ effort to address “historically uneconomical rent costs” and return the business to sustainable profitability.

The move affected hundreds of employees nationwide, with the Wyton store among those impacted. Now, under Blue Diamond’s stewardship, the site is being restocked and refurbished in preparation for a new era.

With a reputation for stylish garden retail and destination experiences, Blue Diamond’s arrival is expected to bring renewed footfall and economic buzz to the area. The investment signals confidence in the local market and offers a positive story for Huntingdon residents and green-fingered visitors alike.

As spring blooms, so too will the freshly revamped centre—ready to welcome a new wave of customers through its doors next month.
