A loud explosion-like sound rattled homes across parts of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, leaving residents puzzled and searching for answers. The sudden noise, captured on CCTV, was powerful enough to shake houses, prompting speculation about its origin.
A House-Shaking Boom
Stuart Mulholland, a resident of Christchurch near March, Cambridgeshire, described the shocking moment. “Me and my wife were in the study when we thought a lorry had crashed into the house—the whole place just shook,” he told the BBC. Stepping outside, they found neighbours equally startled, speculating whether a sonic boom was to blame.
Was It a Sonic Boom?
Social media users reported hearing the mysterious sound in Downham Market, Norfolk, fuelling further curiosity. However, the Ministry of Defence stated that there were no official reports of a sonic boom, leaving the source of the noise unexplained. Norfolk Police confirmed receiving at least one report of the incident but offered no further details.
The Mystery Remains
With no immediate explanations from authorities, the cause of the powerful blast-like sound remains unknown. Was it an atmospheric event, an industrial explosion, or something else entirely? Residents of Norfolk and Cambridgeshire continue to wait for answers.
