British Transport Police have increased patrols at Cambridge North railway station following a series of “serious” attacks on trains.
Since 18 January, six incidents have been reported, with perpetrators using catapults to smash train windows. While no injuries have been recorded, the attacks have caused service delays, with the most recent occurring on Sunday.
Temporary Detective Inspector Charlotte Collins warned that those responsible could face “a significant custodial sentence” and emphasised the danger posed by such actions.
“These are very serious incidents of endangering safety on the railway,” she said.
In response, officers are stepping up their presence at the station and working closely with the rail industry to prevent further attacks. Police have also issued an appeal for witnesses to assist in their investigation.
