CMR Surgical has announced a major milestone in its mission to transform surgery: more than 30,000 procedures have now been performed globally using its flagship Versius surgical robot.
Since launching, Versius has rapidly become the second most-used soft-tissue surgical robot in the world, now deployed across major hospitals in multiple countries. More than 70% of hospitals using Versius have integrated it into two or more specialties, ranging from urology to thoracic and gynaecological surgery.
Versius stands out for its compact and modular design, allowing it to fit into standard operating theatres and be easily moved between departments. With a design inspired by the human arm and equipped with 3D HD vision, the system allows surgeons to work with precision and less fatigue. It’s also helping expand access to robotic-assisted procedures, including in paediatric and transoral surgery through clinical trials at NHS Trusts in Southampton, Manchester, London, and Liverpool.
CMR Surgical’s latest upgrade, Versius Plus, brings advanced features such as vLimeLite fluorescence imaging and the Ultrasonic Dissector—tools that help surgeons perform more complex procedures with better visibility and control.
Massimiliano Colella, CEO of CMR Surgical, said:
We are proud that over 30,000 patients around the world have now benefited from Versius. With new enhancements and clinical trials underway, we’re in a strong position to keep delivering the benefits of robotic-assisted surgery.
As CMR expands into new markets with regulatory approvals and product innovations, Cambridge remains at the forefront of a surgical revolution—one robot arm at a time.
