A well-known corner of Cambridge city centre could soon be buzzing with the clink of pint glasses and the scent of sausage rolls.
Local brewery BrewBoard has submitted plans to Cambridge City Council to transform the former Angela Reed furniture shop on Peas Hill into a vibrant new craft beer taproom and bottle shop.
The independent brewery, based in Harston just outside the city, launched in 2017 and has since built up a strong following among local beer enthusiasts. The proposed taproom would mark a “significant investment” in the city, the company said.
According to the planning documents, BrewBoard aims to use the space as a bottle shop during the day, showcasing its own beers and merchandise alongside products from other breweries. The team hopes the shop will become a destination for craft beer fans, with new arrivals promoted on social media to BrewBoard’s growing online community.
In the evenings, the venue would transform into a fully-fledged taproom offering a rotating selection of beers, wine, and soft drinks, accompanied by bar snacks like scotch eggs and sausage rolls.
Not content with just pouring pints, BrewBoard also has plans to convert the building’s basement into an events space. The brewery envisions hosting regular tutored tastings, creative workshops, and art sessions—cementing the venue as a cultural as well as social hub.
The brewery estimates that at least 20 local jobs will be created through the new taproom and events space, providing a welcome boost to the city centre’s hospitality scene.
BrewBoard said it is “confident” that its existing loyal customer base in Cambridge will help make the Peas Hill site a success.
If approved, the taproom would add to the city’s growing appetite for craft beer and independent venues, offering locals and visitors alike a fresh reason to head into town.
