Cheffins, a prominent auction house and property services firm, is celebrating its 200th anniversary this year with a substantial pledge to give back to the community. The company aims to raise £200,000 for various charitable causes, with a particular emphasis on supporting the construction of the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital and bolstering youth mental health services.

At least £100,000 will be directed towards the Cambridge Children’s Hospital project, managed through Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT). The funds will contribute to creating a dedicated playroom within the hospital, aligning with Cheffins’ commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of younger generations. The hospital, slated for completion in 2029, is set to become a pioneering facility combining physical and mental healthcare, serving a region currently without a dedicated children’s hospital.

Established in Saffron Walden in 1825, Cheffins has evolved from a local valuation and auctioneer business to a leading regional force in property, agricultural machinery, and fine art sales. The company now employs over 180 staff across East Anglia and operates a 40-acre sale ground near Ely, while maintaining an international reach with its specialist sales.

Chairman Bill King emphasised the company’s commitment to both its historical legacy and future growth. “We are thrilled to announce this ambitious fundraising goal and are committed to building a strong foundation for both Cheffins and the generations to come,” he stated.

This celebration will be a demonstration of our commitment to the community, with a significant portion allocated to improving mental health services.

In addition to supporting the Cambridge Children’s Hospital, Cheffins will donate a minimum of £20,000 to the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, further furthering its dedication to youth mental health initiatives within the local area. Another £80,000 will be distributed to various charities nationwide.

Shelly Thake, CEO of ACT, praised the partnership, highlighting the synergy between Cheffins’ goals and the hospital’s holistic approach to healthcare. “Their passion for supporting young people and integrating physical and mental health aligns perfectly with our vision for this groundbreaking hospital,” she said, adding that the hospital will deliver life-changing support to countless children and young people.

To mark the anniversary, Cheffins has also produced a 24-page commemorative publication, “The Cheffins Chronicle”, detailing the company’s history and achievements.
