A Cambridgeshire Constabulary officer has been charged with corruption-related offenses after an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). PC Shazad Ali, 43, based at Cambridgeshire Constabulary Headquarters, will appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday, February 24, facing charges of misconduct in public office and unlawfully obtaining and disclosing personal information under the Data Protection Act 2018.
The charges stem from an incident in March 2024, where PC Ali allegedly accessed the Police National Computer (PNC) to check vehicle information without a legitimate policing reason. He is also accused of sharing this confidential data with a third party. The IOPC began its directed investigation shortly after the referral from Cambridgeshire Constabulary. The case was handled by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire (BCH) Anti-Corruption Unit under the IOPC’s direction.
In October, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges based on the evidence gathered, which will now be presented in court. This case highlights ongoing efforts to maintain integrity and accountability within law enforcement agencies.
