Cambridgeshire County Council has earned four national award nominations. This recognition comes from the prestigious Local Government Chronicle Awards. The nominations highlight the council’s commitment to excellence in local government. They celebrate leadership, creativity, and community impact.
The council’s “Dig Once” policy was a standout nomination in the ‘Innovation’ category. By installing fibre ducts during road construction, the council avoided costly, repetitive digging. It also reduced carbon emissions and disruption for communities. This proactive measure was highlighted as setting a new standard for sustainable connectivity in local government.
The council was also nominated for awards in the Community involvement category, with the Fenland Youth Work Network, which supports young people aged 11-18. The initiative offers safe spaces where young people learn vital skills. The project helps protect vulnerable youth from violence, exploitation, and county lines risks.
Other nominations were for health and social care. The Cambridgeshire Shared Lives Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Project supports survivors with learning disabilities and autism. It addresses both care needs and recovery challenges. This specialised service fills a crucial gap in domestic abuse support.
