Cambridge developer Ninja Theory has stormed the BAFTA Games Awards nominations, with their stunning action-adventure, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, securing an impressive 11 nods. This remarkable achievement places the Cambridge-based studio at the forefront of the prestigious awards, set to take place in London on April 8th.

Hellblade II, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 BAFTA-winning Senua’s Sacrifice, competes in 11 out of 14 categories, including the coveted Best Game award. They are facing stiff competition from Astro Bot, which boasts eight nominations and recently triumphed at the Game Awards.

While some may find the sheer number of nominations surprising, given the game’s positive, yet not overwhelmingly glowing, reviews, its technical prowess and powerful narrative have clearly resonated with BAFTA voters. Ninja Theory’s commitment to portraying mental health with sensitivity shines through, earning critical acclaim and cementing their reputation as a studio that pushes creative boundaries.

The game, lauded for its immersive experience and stunning visuals, continues the story of Senua, delving deeper into her psychological journey.

Cambridge can take pride in Ninja Theory’s remarkable success, as they showcase the city’s burgeoning talent within the global gaming industry. Keep an eye out for the awards ceremony, where we’ll see if the Cambridge studio can turn their nominations into gold.
