Cambridge’s thriving startup scene is being encouraged to apply for a global contest that could supercharge their chip development ambitions. The Arm Silicon Startups Contest 2025, now in its third year, offers early-stage silicon companies the chance to win up to $250,000 in Arm technology credit and gain access to Arm’s extensive suite of processor IP, tools, and support.
Backed by Arm and Silicon Catalyst, this prestigious contest supports startups in developing innovative System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions, with the aim of helping them move from concept to prototype faster and at a lower cost.
Arm’s Flexible Access for Startups programme has already supported over 160 companies worldwide since 2020, giving participants no-cost access to Arm’s leading chip designs and development tools. Now, startups in Cambridge—home to Arm’s global headquarters and a renowned tech ecosystem—have a unique opportunity to join the ranks of those transforming industries through silicon innovation.
The winner of this year’s contest will receive $250,000 in technology credit for use within the Arm Flexible Access programme, enabling them to accelerate their path to commercial tape-out. A runner-up will receive $150,000. Both winners will gain exposure to investment opportunities via the Silicon Catalyst Angel group, along with mentoring and ecosystem support.
In 2024, Finnish startup Agate Sensors and India’s SmartKosh Technologies used the contest to develop ground-breaking tech in imaging and green energy. For 2025, Arm’s leadership team is eager to see what the next generation of innovators will bring.
To qualify, startups must have raised under $20 million and earn less than $1 million in annual revenue. Applications, including a pitch deck and short video, must be submitted by 25 April 2025.
With Cambridge’s deep talent pool and close ties to Arm’s legacy, this contest could be the launchpad for the city’s next tech success story.
