A significant reward of £20,000 is now being offered for information relating to the disappearance of Julie Buckley, a 54-year-old woman from Christchurch, near March, Cambridgeshire.
Police have confirmed they are treating the case as murder, although Ms Buckley’s body has not yet been found.
The independent charity Crimestoppers announced the reward today, hoping to encourage anyone with crucial details to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation. Annabelle Goodenough, Crimestoppers’ south east regional manager, stressed the importance of public assistance. “Any piece of information you share could make a difference and could help bring Julie’s family the peace and closure they deserve,” she stated. “If you know something about Julie’s whereabouts, or about those who may have been involved in her murder, you can contact Crimestoppers and stay 100 per cent anonymous. Always.”
Ms Buckley was last seen on CCTV footage at a Budgens supermarket in March on January 28th. She was reported missing on February 13th, prompting a police investigation which has now escalated to a murder enquiry.
Detective Inspector Richard Stott of Cambridgeshire Police echoed the appeal for information, stating, “This is an incredibly difficult time for Julie’s family and loved ones. We believe that someone, somewhere has information that could significantly aid our efforts to find her. If you know anything about Julie’s disappearance or the circumstances surrounding it, we urge you to come forward.”
The reward will be payable to anyone who provides information directly to Crimestoppers that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Ms Buckley’s murder, or the discovery of her body.
Karl Hutchings, 47, of Christchurch, has already been charged with Ms Buckley’s murder. He pleaded not guilty when appearing at Cambridge Crown Court on March 19th and has been remanded in custody. His trial is scheduled to begin on September 29th at the same court.
Crimestoppers operates independently of the police and guarantees complete anonymity to anyone providing information. Those with details are urged to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website at crimestoppers-uk.org. The family of Julie Buckley continue to desperately seek answers and hope for closure during this incredibly difficult time.
